WEB The coaching journey of Hugh Freeze took an unexpected turn when he faced a severe health setback prior to the start of the 2019 season. Freeze stepped down as the Rebels head coach in July 2017 after a scandal surrounding a female escort service.

Despite these challenges, Freeze remained determined to coach again. He accepted the head coaching position at Liberty University in December 2018. However, just weeks before the start of the 2019 season, Freeze was hospitalized with a staph infection.

Being confined to a hospital bed was not going to stop Freeze from coaching his first game with Liberty on Saturday night. With the help of his doctors and nurses, Freeze was able to call plays and communicate with his players from his hospital room.

There aren't many stories as motivational in sports history as Hugh Freeze coaching from his hospital bed. He stands out as a great example of perseverance and determination. Despite facing adversity, Freeze never gave up on his dream of coaching again.
