Kentucky Derby Week Marred by Death of Seven Horses

Two More Horses Die on Race Day

Louisville, KY - The Kentucky Derby, one of the most prestigious horse races in the world, has been overshadowed by the tragic deaths of seven horses in the week leading up to the race. Two more horses died on race day, bringing the total number of fatalities to nine.

The first horse to die was Omaha Beach, a four-year-old colt who was considered a contender for the Derby. He suffered a heart attack during a workout on April 27. Five other horses died in the following days, all from various causes including injuries sustained during training or racing.

The deaths of the horses have raised concerns about the safety of horse racing. The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission is investigating the deaths and has ordered a review of the safety procedures at Churchill Downs.

The deaths of the horses have also cast a pall over the Kentucky Derby, which is typically a celebration of the sport of horse racing. Many fans and animal rights activists are calling for changes to be made to improve the safety of the horses.
