Rebecca Grossman Sentenced to 15 Years to Life for Killing Two Brothers

Wealthy California Socialite Gets Prison Term

Sentenced on Monday, June 10, 2024

Rebecca Grossman, a wealthy California socialite and philanthropist, was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison on Monday for the deaths of two brothers she struck while speeding.

Grossman was speeding when she struck and killed Mark Iskander, 11, and his brother Jacob, 8, while they were in a crosswalk in Van Nuys. The boys' parents, Karim and Nancy Iskander, were present at the sentencing hearing.

"No sentence will ever bring our precious boys back to us," said Karim Iskander after the sentencing. "But we are grateful that justice has been served, and we hope that this sentence sends a message to other drivers that speeding is not tolerated."

Grossman's attorneys had asked for leniency, arguing that she was remorseful for her actions. However, the judge said that Grossman's speeding and "gross negligence" warranted a severe sentence.

"This was a preventable tragedy," the judge said. "I hope that this sentence will deter others from making the same reckless choices that Ms. Grossman made."
