A Look Back at the 1984-85 Edmonton Oilers Season

Coming off a Stanley Cup Championship

The 1984-85 Edmonton Oilers season was the Oilers' sixth season in the NHL. They were coming off a Stanley Cup championship in 1983-84, and they were looking to repeat as champions.

The Oilers got off to a great start in the 1984-85 season, winning their first 12 games. However, they then hit a rough patch, losing 10 of their next 12 games. They managed to rebound and finish the season with a record of 49-23-8, which was good for first place in the Smythe Division.

In the playoffs, the Oilers defeated the Winnipeg Jets, Los Angeles Kings, and Calgary Flames to reach the Stanley Cup Final. In the Final, they faced off against the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Oilers won the Stanley Cup in six games, and Wayne Gretzky was named the Conn Smythe Trophy winner as the playoffs' most valuable player.
